Privacy policy

Vices & Desires is built so that being a member stays private. This policy explains what Vices & Desires collects, why, who can see it, and how to get it removed. We never sell your information.

What we collect

• Your sign-in email. Used to sign you in and to send account messages. Members never see it.
• Your profile. Screen name, region (never your town or address), and anything you choose to add: bio, tags, partners, photo.
• What you post and send. Posts, comments, messages, groups and events you create, friends, blocks and reports.
• Your age-check result. Pass or fail, the date and the checking company's reference number. We never receive or store your ID document. See age verification.
• Photos. We shrink every upload and strip its hidden data, including GPS location, before saving it.
• Waitlist and contact forms. The email and details you enter.
• Basic technical data. Sign-in cookies that keep you signed in, and server logs used to keep the site secure. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.

Who can see what

• The public and search engines see nothing about members.
• Verified members see your screen name, and the rest of your profile only as your privacy settings allow. Blocked members see nothing at all.
• Messages are visible only to the people in the conversation. Staff read a message only when it has been reported to them.
• Moderators see what they need to handle reports. Every staff action is recorded in an audit log.

Companies that help run the site

We share only what each one needs to do its job:

• Our hosting provider, where the site and database run (in the United States).
• Our email provider, which delivers sign-in and account emails.
• An age-verification company, which checks your age and tells us only the result.
• Our payment processor, once paid features open. It handles card details; we never see your full card number.

We may also share information when the law requires it, or to protect someone from serious harm, including reports of child exploitation to the authorities.

How long we keep it

• Your account data, for as long as you have an account.
• After you close your account, we delete your profile, posts, photos and messages within 30 days. Our nightly backups expire after a further 30 days, and they go with them.
• We keep the records the law or safety requires for longer: moderation and ban records, and reports involving illegal content.
• Waitlist emails are deleted when you ask, and are used only to tell you about the launch.

Your choices

• Edit or remove your profile details and photo at any time.
• Block or mute anyone. Choose who can message you and who can see your profile.
• Ask for a copy of your data, a correction, or deletion of your account through the contact form (choose "Privacy or data request"). We answer within 30 days.

Security

The site runs over encrypted connections. Database access rules mean each member can only read what they're allowed to. Photos are kept in private storage and shown through links that expire.

Adults only

The site is not for anyone under 18. If we learn that a minor has signed up, we close the account and delete its data.
