Beginner guide in consent & safety, 2 minute read
Protecting your privacy (and everyone else's)
Habits that keep your lifestyle separate from your work and family life, and the rule about never outing others.
Your screen name and profile
- Pick a screen name you don't use anywhere else, especially not on your work or family accounts.
- List your region, not your town, and leave out your job, employer and school.
- Decide who sees your profile: all verified members, friends only, or only you.
Photos
- Faces are optional. Plenty of members never show theirs.
- Watch the background: house numbers, mail, uniforms, tattoos and distinctive rooms can identify you.
- We remove location data from uploads here, but photos you send through other apps may still carry it.
Messages and apps
- Keep conversations on the platform until you trust someone. Moving to text or another app too early gives away your phone number.
- Turn off message previews on your lock screen if others see your phone.
- Use a separate email for lifestyle accounts.
Never out anyone
Who you see here, at a munch or at a party stays there. Don't confirm someone is a member, share their photos, or tell others about their interests, even if you think it's harmless. Outing someone can cost them a job, custody or their safety, and it gets you removed from the community.
If you see someone you know from everyday life, a small nod and moving on is the usual etiquette.
